Physiotherapy is a regulated profession in Germany. This means you cannot simply arrive and start working. You need a state permit from the competent authority that confirms your qualification is recognised. Without this permit you cannot legally use the title Physiotherapeut in Germany or work in the profession.

This is not unique to Indian physiotherapists. Every non-EU physiotherapist who wants to work in Germany must go through the same process regardless of their country of origin.

Who Is the Competent Authority

The Anerkennung Process Step by Step

After completing the adaptation course, you receive full recognition and your salary increases to the full physiotherapist scale.

Option 2: Aptitude test

Instead of the adaptation course, you can choose to take an aptitude test called Kenntnisprufung. The test covers only the specific areas where gaps were identified. It consists of a practical test and an examination interview.
